After 3 years, Rivers has evolved their original Hoop Coffee Press to only feature one filter instead of three, to create the Hoop Mono. This change has not only made cleaning easier but also makes a cleaner coffee.

Even with a fine grind, the 'monofilter' presses the coffee further than a conventional coffee press filter, leaving less grinds and greater taste in your cup.

In the 3-sheet filter, it was necessary to remove the screw attached to the plunger and separate all parts for washing, but the new model can be washed without disassembling.

Ingredients and Tools:

  • Filter ground coffee
  • Hot water
  • Core Coffee Press
  • Stirring utensil
  • Timer

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Measure Coffee:

    • Use a filter ground coffee for French Press brewing. A general guideline is to use a coffee-to-water ratio of 1:15 or 1:16. For example, for every 1 gram of coffee, use 15-16 grams of water.
  2. Preheat your Core Coffee Press:

    • Pour a small amount of hot water into the French Press to preheat it. Swirl the water around, and then discard it.
  3. Add Coffee:

    • Add the measured coffee grounds to the bottom of the Coffee Press.
  4. Add Hot Water:

    • Heat water to just below boiling (around 93°C). Pour the hot water over the coffee grounds, ensuring even saturation. Use a pouring kettle or milk pitcher for better control.
  5. Stir and Bloom:

    • Stir the coffee-water mixture gently with a wooden or plastic utensil to ensure all grounds are saturated. Allow it to bloom for about 30 seconds.
  6. Attach Lid and Plunge:

    • Attach the lid to the cafetiere without pressing down the plunger. Let the coffee steep for the desired time (typically 4-6 minutes).
  7. Plunge:

    • After steeping, slowly press down the plunger, separating the coffee grounds from the liquid.
  8. Pour and Serve:

    • Pour the brewed coffee into your favourite mug.

Tips:

  • Experiment with the coffee-to-water ratio to find your preferred strength.
  • Use fresh, high-quality coffee beans for the best flavour.
  • Start with clean equipment to avoid any lingering flavours from previous brews.

By following these steps, you can enjoy a rich and flavourful cup of coffee using any coffee press. Adjustments can be made based on personal taste preferences. Still having troubles? Check out our guide to brewing with a cafetiere.

What sets the Coffee Press Hoop Mono apart from traditional coffee presses?

The Coffee Press Hoop Mono distinguishes itself with a stainless steel monofilter, enhancing mouthfeel, stability, and ease of cleaning, providing a cleaner and oil-free coffee experience.

How does the monofilter improve the mouthfeel of the coffee?

The monofilter in the Hoop Mono suppresses fine bean powder more effectively than conventional filters, resulting in an improved mouthfeel by delivering a cleaner and finer coffee texture.

What is the advantage of the Hoop Mono's simplified design in terms of oil removal and taste preservation?

Unlike traditional three-sheet filters, the Hoop Mono's simplified design facilitates easy washing, preventing the accumulation of oils on the filter. This feature ensures that the taste is preserved without the need for frequent filter replacements.

How has the cleaning process and overall operation improved compared to traditional coffee presses?

The Hoop Mono eliminates the need for disassembling during cleaning, allowing for a hassle-free washing experience. This not only improves the daily operation for home users but also enhances operational efficiency for cafes serving coffee by pressing.
