Decadent Mocha Madness Cake: Step by Step Guide

Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and flour two 23cm (9-inch) round cake pans.


In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.


In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

 

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until the batter is smooth.


Pour in the strong brew coffee and stir until it's fully incorporated into the batter.

 

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.


Bake the cakes in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.


While the cakes are baking, prepare the mocha frosting. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.

 

Add the cocoa powder, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and cooled strong brew coffee. Beat until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.


Once the cakes are done baking, remove them from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.


Once the cakes have cooled, spread a generous layer of mocha frosting on top of one cake layer.

 

Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake, covering the sides as well.
