The Cave Reversible is one of Rivers newest pour overs that can control the taste of coffee and bring the acidity and bitterness closer to the ideal balance by simply turning the face over. The secret is two different rib structures on the front and back.

Side A: Twelve thick and short ribs can be extracted slowly, and the sourness of beans with strong acidity can be alleviated.

Side B: 24 thin, long and short rib extraction makes the drip speed a little faster, and reduces bitterness. Recommended for people who do not like strong bitter coffee.

The Cave Pour Over is cleverly partnered with the Pond Holder (included). This compact holder can be folded to neatly fit inside your cup for easy storage.

Ingredients and Tools:

  • Ground coffee
  • Hario V2 filters
  • Hot water
  • Core Pour Over
  • Kettle
  • Timer
  • Scale
  • Stirring utensil

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Prepare Equipment:

    • Place the pour-over cone on top of your coffee mug or a carafe.
  2. Rinse the Filter:

    • If using a paper filter, rinse it with hot water. This helps remove any paper residue and preheats the cone and vessel. Discard the rinse water.
  3. Measure Coffee:

    • Weigh out the desired amount of ground coffee. A common ratio is 1:15 (1 gram of coffee to 15 grams of water).
  4. Add Coffee to Cone:

    • Place the coffee grounds in the centre of the cone, creating a slight well in the middle.
  5. Bloom:

    • Pour a small amount of hot water (about twice the weight of the coffee) onto the grounds, allowing them to bloom for about 30 seconds. This helps release gases from freshly ground coffee.
  6. Pour in Stages:

    • Gradually pour the remaining hot water in a circular motion over the coffee grounds, starting from the centre and moving outward. Maintain a slow, controlled pour to ensure even extraction.
  7. Stir Gently:

    • Optionally, give the coffee slurry a gentle stir with a wooden or plastic utensil to ensure even saturation.
  8. Finish Pouring:

    • Continue pouring until you reach the desired coffee-to-water ratio. Aim to complete the pour within 2-3 minutes for optimal extraction.
  9. Let It Drip:

    • Allow the coffee to drip through the filter until the brewing process is complete. This typically takes 2-4 minutes, depending on the pour-over device.
  10. Remove Filter and Enjoy:

    • Once the dripping has stopped, carefully remove the filter or pour-over cone. Stir the coffee gently if needed, and your pour-over coffee is ready to enjoy!

Adjust the grind size, coffee-to-water ratio, and pouring technique based on your taste preferences. With practice, you can refine your pour-over skills and discover your perfect cup.

How do I use the reversible pour over to stop my coffee tasting bitter?

To remove any bitter tasting notes, use the side with more fine lines. With twenty-four thin, long, and short ribs designed for a slightly faster drip, the purpose of this side is to decrease the bitterness in the coffee, making it ideal for those who prefer a milder taste.

How do I use the reversible pour over to stop my coffee tasting sour?

Simply reverse the pour over coffee maker so that the side with less grooves is on the inside. With twelve thick and short ribs facilitating a slow extraction, the purpose of this side is to alleviate sourness by mitigating the acidity of beans with strong sour notes.

Can I take the River Cave pour over camping?

Yes! This coffee maker was designed for camping, with it's unique foldable design you will find it easy to store, wash and reuse.
